Bluebird or Mountain Bluebird

Keynote: Modesty, unassuming confidence and happiness.

The bluebird is a native bird of North America. Although they were once quite common, now they are quite rare. This is a reminder that we are born to happiness and fulfillment, but sometimes we go so lost and wrapped up in the everyday events of our lives that happiness and fulfillment seem rare. When bluebird shows up it is a reminder first of all to take time to enjoy yourself.

Bluebirds are part of the thrush family. The males are entirely blue, while the females only have blue in the wings. Blue is associated with the throat chakra and creative expression.

This little bird has a very unassuming appearance often sitting with its shoulders hunched up as if about to dive, symbolizing the need to work and play hard. Their song is a plaintive song. When bluebird shows up it is time to ask yourself if you are trying to shoulder too much responsibility.

The idea of the bluebird being symbolic of happiness is fairly recent. A concept developed more in the 20th century than at any other time.

Bluebirds are gentle and non-aggressive. They do not push or bully other birds, however they are very scrappy when threatened. They have been known to put to flight jays and even larger birds. Their nests usually face South, the direction for awakening the inner child. When bluebird comes into your life, look for opportunities to touch the joyful and intrinsically native parts of yourself with which you may have lost touch.
